Parent in a nursing home in a different state?

With the economy declining at such an alarming rate I am extremely worried about losing my job. Based on my field of work I'm afraid that I will need to move to another state which poses a problem for my nursing home situation. My mom is not able to be moved very easily and most likely if I move it will be to the west or east coast where nursing home expenses are substantially higher. As such I am considering leaving my mom here at her current nursing home.
Does anyone else have a parent in an out-of-state nursing home? Is it working out?

My dad is in a long term care facility in upstate New York and I live in Boston. It is really tough at times but I try to visit him a few times a year. Luckily I have a brother that can check on him frequently.
By the way this is a really good idea for a forum.

I really feel like I am getting close to losing my job and I have not been able to find anything locally yet. The scenario of moving and leaving my mom here seems like a real possibility. The good thing is that now my mom is in a much better facility so I will not be as worried about her. I am still holding out hope that I can find a job in my current city but it is looking less likely. I am not willing to take a step back in my career to stay.

This is really a very difficult decision to make, leaving loved ones on nursing care outside state is really a challenge especially if this person is really close to you, but of course if it will take losing a job you definitely do not have any other choice but to do it, one of the biggest challenge is looking for a reliable nursing homes that has the greatest service that your parents deserve.
